Come join the Criminal Mass bike ride in Carson to kick off the new mural by Yale Wolf and Erik Burke. Bring your bike or borrow one and meet at 4pm in the Blue Moon parking lot at California and Plumas in Reno. Carpool's leaving at 4:30 so don't be late. Or find your own ride and meet in Carson.
The show is found at the alleyway of 1801 N. Carson St. Carson St. On your left right in the heart of Carson on the main strip. There's even a liquor sto' across the street. It can't get anymore convenient.
Show starts at 5pm and goes to 7pm. So don't miss out. Activities include: Gold Fronts, Rajbot, Triclops, and meeting my 3rd grade teacher.
Here's a few licks of the process. Yale and I have taken scuzzlife to a new level. Eating burnt beans cooked off of kerosene poured straight on the ground. Sleeping in cardboard boxes on the coldest nights of the year. And of course, making a mess of color on everything else.

...also Lucky made the front of the Nevada Appeal today.

Book Camera by Sreiny

The front of the book camera. The rubber band keeps all the insides from falling out. The wood stick turns the film. Inside the square cutout has a piece of thin metal with a small pinhole. The square flap is used to open and start the exposure.
The second pic shows the view of the film in the camera. This can be adapted to make an exposure to your liking. Maybe keep it basic like normal 35 or cut a perfectly square hole to give it a Holga feel, or experiment with panoramic or the shape of batman.
The last image hows the back of the pinhole and the square chamber with the film at the back. Cut it with a very sharp xacto.

Capital City Arts Initiative (click for link)
The Capital City Arts Initiative is honored to launch "CAP," its new art in public program, with a commissioned work by artist Erik Burke. Mr. Burke is creating an outdoor mural on a building in Carson City located in the alley between 1801 and 1805 N. Carson Street. An opening reception will be held Wednesday, September 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., with music by local DJ’s.
Art in public will be the focus of CCAI's 2006-2007 season. During the year "CAP" will present a diverse range of public projects in northern Nevada and online.
Mr. Burke often represents local people in his murals while involving them in their production. He comments, “In a world that fixates on celebrity, and monumentalizes glamour, I try to do the opposite by focusing on the unsung heroes of everyday life.”
Local Carson City bicyclist Glen Lucky is the inspiration for Mr. Burke's mural, not only because the artist is an avid cyclist, but also because of Mr. Lucky’s admirable determination and community engagement. Mr. Lucky has cerebral palsy, but he doesn’t let that stop him. He has ridden about 40-100 miles a day through heat, cold, rain and snow since he was 15 years old. What initially started as therapy to loosen his muscles has turned into his passion.
The artist received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2005. He currently lives in Sacramento. His murals are a prominent feature of northern Nevada urban landscape, and his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the CCAI's fall 2005 exhibition "What Up?"
