Just home from Montreal where there were plenty of bonfires, brewskis, and bike rides. Wandered train lines till the sun came up and watched Fireworks in the distance. Even got to swim in algae filled lakes and brush up on my French. Everyone there is amazingly awesome. E-specially my hosts Other and Jessica! Hope to go back soon.

It had to happen
As luck would have it I've been talking about having a Bill Murray Marathon for some time now. Well, serendipity came knocking on my door today when it dropped off the new (newish) Darjeeling Limited by Wes Anderson. So as I see it, I invite all friends and soon-to-be friends to bring a movie starring Bill Murray to my house for the...

Some must sees of course are Coffee and Cigarette's with the RZA, anything from Meatballs, Groundhogs Day, Caddy Shack, and of course Ghostbusters. If only the upcoming (2009) Roald Dahl meets Wes Anderson film The Fantastic Mr. Fox was out.

Home sweet Photobooth
First off, a shout out to my big and lil' boo's at Sleepy Time who been holding it down, waterloggin' the fine art world, since the new milli. But for the record, I stumbled upon some aussi biters named Sleep Club. I'm going to post a project they did in Berlin at the Takt Residency.
I think that the larger issue they address about public housing is great and I like the dual use of the photobooth as house and means of documentation. But again, true praise is due to the almighty Sleepy Time keepin' it hood coast to coast.
From their website:

We made some flocked Schlaf Klub tshirts and wore them while we slept in six different Photoautomats in Berlin. We took a lot of pictures and made this little installation as a result. Shown at Gallery Takt in Friedrichshain.
Sleep Club is the collaborative work of Dell Stewart and Adam Cruickshank. They went to different art schools in sunny Queensland, but now live and work in Melbourne, Australia.
Last image from a project by Adam Cruickshank.
Lastly, i've been doing a lot of maps today and wanted to post two of which should be very useful for people in the NYC area. Both are also totally open to the public and awaiting your updates.

Swoon & Tennessee Jane Watson
148 11th ave. (btw 20th & 21st St.) map

Last weekend the Swoon and Tennessee Jane collaborative exhibit, Portrait of Silvia Elena, opened at Honey Space. The installation is a memorial to Silvia Elena, a 17-year old girl who was murdered in Juarez, Mexico, in 1995 -- one of the many brutally killed there since the early 90s.
Housed underground, one must descend through a hole in the floor to get to the exhibit. There's a ladder to aid the descent, but at the opening last week one had to climb down rubble. Once underground in the long-sealed, candlelit sub-basement, visitors encounter a shrine dedicated to Silvia's memory while they hear the sound of dirt being cleared from Silvia's grave, the desert winds, and Silvia's mother speaking about her daughter.
The eerie setting "provides a window into the tragic and ongoing issue of femicide. Defined as a pattern of murder targeting women, to which authorities have often systematically turned a blind eye." The show runs through July 5th.

Notes from Cuba

click on any of the notes to see them larger than thuglife.
If I wasn't so lazy I would have written this story a long time ago. I wanted to write it many times. I'd see something like boys playing marbles with an intensity completely disconnected from their crumbling surroundings and go frantic for a pen and paper. Halfway rummaging through my pack of bic pens I'd think, 'naw, i'll write about it later.'
Later is a staple of this place. The bus will come later. The restaurant will get another delivery of food later. The power will come back later. Later is the handshake of this country that seals every negotiation and surrenders any ambition.
When we first arrived we were speeding through the dimly cast streets in an antique Russian Lada headed towards political billboards cursing the U.S. Government. The yellow and black faded car was cozy with the seat springs wiggling their way out of loosened leather seams. The cracked windows amplified the rumbling diesel engine . The exhaust heavy like that of a boat motor. Turning to eachother, we agreed on the smell and the nostalgia associated with boating.
The long field slowly tightened. The palms and agave were replaced by concrete apartments. A slight roll to the left. Izquerda my mouth practiced saying. We careened beneath the blanket of overgrown fronds, aroung the stoic monuments, and into the dark city frozen in it's antiques, rot, and unbelievable life. (to be cont.)

Freestyle painting for Maya Hayuk

Stopped by Monster Island in Williamsburg a few weeks back and met some cool south and central american painters along with Maya Hayuk. Came back that weekend and painted this mural alongside Ripo, Santo, and others. If you want to see it it's on the front of Mollosk Surf Shop(directions).
About a near drowning in Rio where loose lips sink ships and undertows make thunder flow. Scrap can hail mary.
