Sticking around NYC

I was fortunate enough to be in NYC for the second half of September and it was a great two weeks. For this post I just wanted to show a few of the wheat pastes that went up throughout the city during that time.

Book smart lions kneel anti-gravity style, Bushwick

Hashtagging with NDA on 3rd and C in Alphabet City

Been listening to a lot of Raphael Saadiq and that song Good Man snuck in on this paster in Bushwick

Crying over the Gowanus canal

Made this in Santa Rosa with the help of some ambitious and imaginative kids. Found a home in Greenpoint

Creative supports on these Harlem metal doors on 103rd. And yes, that's a stretch pickup with a jacuzzi party in the back.

All I see is you... oh you!

This spot was the cat's meow up on 130th and Malcolm X. Got a little Kashink in there too.

Jim Joe approved lot off Broadway. Like the Leathal Weapon 2 Off Broadway show.

And there she is in all her iconic glory. With my man NDA again. About a week later they punched a hole through the wall right on the guys chin.

Or maybe this one is the cat's meow. LOL kitty on Rivington in the LES. Already gone though.

Hungover rainy mornings in the Lower East Side. We've all been there right?

Let's see, we got me and the NDA on some New Gold hashtaggery and a RAE, DAIN, and EKG down on Division near Chinatown. Already gone

Back to an OG spot in Redhook for this welcome wagon of nosiness.

Do you think she wants to Rah Rah with my nina? Back in Redhook on Van Brunt for this 10ft goliath.

Praying for housing in Redhook.

#nofilter, SYKE, I don't know what happened to this flick but at least you can see all her little wormy legs.

Z tip top is the best bar in BedStuy. Do your self a favor and have a bday party there. This is on Whipple off Flushing

The LES Lot

If you're in NY this Thursday, August 25, stop by 145 Ludlow btw Stanton and Rivington from 6-8 pm.

Crest Hardware along with Brooklyn Street Art and the MANY project gave some sweat and love to an abandoned lot along with a host of artists. I happened to be in NY for half the day and luckily stopped by at the right time. Go check it out. Good stuff all around!

Albin Ray in NY

Surprise, surprise. New York sent me down a street I've never seen, in a neighborhood I've never been, and lo and behold....
contemporary fine rush hour

To the literati-at-large the above graffiti is a welcomed change with a well groomed message by the artist Albin Ray. I'm a fan of the Viennese artist and for unexplainable reasons tend to say, 'he is just so awesome' to often. However, Albin Ray has been a mystery for some time now. I haven't heard a peep of him besides his recent BLK Festival performance piece a few months prior. And why? Most likely because Albin Ray seems to care nothing for crafting an internet presence. It is his absence that made this find that much more impressive. Just as it was the surprise of finding his piece below the abandoned high line near Hells Kitchen like a needle in a haystack or a street artist without a flickr page.

'Contemporary Fine Rush Hour' suits the gridlocked block and definitely needs some high brow interpretation. Thank god that won't happen here. Instead I wanted to say why he does what he does. I wanted to mention what he is doing now. I wanted to inform people of his awesomeness like most people with blogs intend to do. But instead, I have a paragraph petting zoo.

In closing I'm inspired to reveal less.

Finally Got A Roof Over My Head

Been going strong on the wheat paste front lately. Finally have a studio space that works and a place to rest my head. Got a slew of characters coming through and putting ink to paper. These top three are collaborations with N D'A. He's keen on the brush stroked hands, hair, and feet and i'm on the spray. Have about 3 other new pieces with him that we'll be putting up today. Really like the direction they're headed and excited about the dozen or so other solo pieces I got ready to go up! Busy day ahead of me.

In other news, I'm sending some work out to a show at Bedouin in San Diego, two pieces to Montreal for a big group show for Other's book launch at Yves Laroche Gallery, and some paste ups to Atlanta for a show Hellbent is organizing. Also really excited to see this weeks 'Images of the Week' post on Brooklyn Street Art included work by my daredevil darling White Cocoa. Expect more good things from her...

Over Sensitive Under My Nerves

Wheatpasting all day during a heat wave is not the best idea. But damn does it dry quick.
More work on my flickr.

Jordan Seiler launches NY Street Advertising Takeover Site

New site for NY Street Advertising Takeover!

Check out these two new pieces by Public Ad Campaign head, Jordan Seiler. He says on his site, " I have been wanting to break the frame and begin collapsing the space between the advertisement and the outdoor environment. I hope to eventually be able to visually get rid of the advertisement as well as the frame that retains it."

Jordan Seiler who headed both NY Street Advertising Takeovers and as seen above handles his business on the street, just launched the NY Street Advertising Takeover site. Plenty of good reading on subverting advertisements and the reclaiming of public space from the advertising world.

You can't diss without dissent

There was something strangely perfect happening on Saturday when Jordan Seiler of thePublic Ad Campaign organized an event to buff out over 120 illegal NPA operated advertisements in Manhattan and several in Brooklyn. He then extended the project even further by inviting a slew of street artists to keep it under wraps for a week before hitting the freshly buffed walls.

I hit the streets with the minister of Propaganda/Sleepy Time snuggle buddy Clairvoyance. Nick Riggle was rolling deep along with Cahbasm and NohJColey. For the most part everything was smooth sailing until we got rolled on by undercover chinatown cops during our last poster. It was one of those moments when you are all done but something compels you to add one more doodad. Well next time that happens, don't do the doodad because it's just trouble. As far as I'm concerned, it's a don'tdad!

In our scenario, I was using a bike as a stepping stool in order to wheat paste the last ray over the top of the billboards frame when they rolled on us with shiny badges and polished sunglasses. Our punishment: to rip it off piece by piece, which took just as long, if not longer than putting it up in the first place. This salvaged billboard now had small fragments of paper scattered across it like a detonation of color had just gone off. In a way the cop-curated piece had a cool look. It was minimalist, subtractive, and bona fide avante garde ish. I couldn't help but appreciate the hurried element of struggle to it. Along with the fact that I didnt' get a ticket.
